AQUA, BLUES AND GREEN

Stephanie at Loft Creations has a Dresden plate like this as her blog header. I have loved it since the day I saw it. I personally have never made a quilt with these colors so one day I started cutting scraps to make a Dresden plate quilt....not knowing how many I would need, and not having a pattern or even an idea of how big I wanted the quilt....When I finally started sewing, I had more than enough for a QUEEN sized quilt with some left over. I haven't made a queen sized quilt in a LONG time....But it is very pretty. I just need to add the borders. Thanks Stephanie for the inspiration!!

THIS IS MY SISTER

This is my sister Tracy. She is a quilter too....a hand quilter at that! Also a mother, grandmother, school teacher, wife, Sunday School teacher.....etc. etc. etc. You get the picture. Yes she can do it all. She didn't want her picture taken, but I said I had to have one. Even though she is younger I look up to her in many ways. She is as honest as the day is long. She is a very caring person and is a good school teacher. Her class is taking California State tests these next few weeks. One everyday and although she is stressed, I know her students will do well. The teachers are evaluated on the children's test scores (which I think is crazy). Remember her in your thoughts!

OLD COAT--NEW COAT

This is my Spring coat which I have had for a few years.....plain but practical. This is it's makeover debut....a new collar.
New cuffs on it's three quarter length sleeves.
Trim and covered buttons on it's pockets.
Covered buttons on it's back belt.....It is VERY Spring-like and seems VERY new. So much fun to wear. The first day I wore it, I had 3 compliments. I have been thinking about doing it for sometime now, but when I saw Sandi Henderson's book , Sewing Bits & Pieces 35 Projects Using Fabric Scraps I had to do it! I have my book ordered from Amazon.com! You will want one too!

QUILT COOKIES

These are the cookies Bridget made for my Editor Kimber Mitchell. They look like the Windmill of Pleasure block from my new book. Check out her blog, she makes beautiful cookies. Good thing I didn't get any for myself, as I would have eaten the entire box!

INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW

I have been wondering what kind of response would I get if I wanted to host a quilt retreat?~~~ There would have to be speakers, food, classes, fun, chocolate, give aways...what else? ~~Remember I live in south eastern Idaho. You could fly into Jackson Hole, WY or Idaho Falls, ID. We have BEAUTIFUL fall weather here! ~~ I can't believe I am even thinking about this....do you know how much work something like this entails? Am I crazy? Would anyone come? Maybe we would start out small....10-20 people? What do you think?

KNIT ONE PEARL TWO

DO YOU KNIT?
I personally do not...except I can knit a wash cloth...but my oldest daughter does. She is self-taught for the most part. Although you might enjoy this great knitting tutorial site that is very nice if you want to learn or just get help.
These are what I got for Mother's Day. Hand knitted socks that are just like slipper socks....so warm and comfy!I don't know much about knitting socks except from what I have heard from my daughter and I guess "turning the heel" is a big deal and if you can do that...."YOU CAN REALLY KNIT!" Me...well, I think I will stay with the wash cloths and quilting.
THESE ARE HAPPY FEET!
Thanks Natasha

BEACH COTTAGE OR BUST

Remember in February when I went to visit my sister in southern CA and we went to the beach cities....well, here are a few of the photos of houses we liked. There were several that we liked.
My sister liked this one, I liked it too.....I liked most of them. So as I was sitting here wondering what it would be like to live there 3-4 months during the winter, I thought about throwing caution to the wind and just renting one. A couple of questions did run through my mind.
1. Can I afford it for 3-4 months? More like do I want to afford it?
~~~~
2. Will my husband have a heart attack? Answer: No probably not a heart attack, and he wouldn't even be surprised, but would he be talking to me in 3-4 months?
~~~~
3. Would I have to drive there so I could have a car? It is a long drive.
~~~~
4. Will I be lonely? Answer: If I drive, I can take my sewing machine and anything else I want...probably not too lonely and I would have the GPS so I could find quilt shops....
~~~~
Boy oh boy is this getting tempting. I know for a fact that some places rent by the month! I will have to give this some more serious thought. .. I will keep you posted.

IT HAS FINALLY HAPPENED

I wondered how long it would be before my grandson figured out he would fit in the toy box!
Watching Sesame Street from the box.
Chewing on the toys!
You all know the routine....take the toys out...climb in and play! My son used to take the pans out of the drawer under the oven and climb in the drawer. It is fascinating to see how their little brains work!

QUILTMANIA MAGAZINE

Have any of you seen the Quiltmania Magazine? It is one of my favorites. The company Quiltmania is in France, they print their magazines in French, Dutch, and English. They are the most beautiful quilt magazines EVER! This is a special spring issue, but there regular issues have WONDERFUL stories and articles about quilts and artists from all over the world; then the next section is where the quilts and patterns are for a project you would like to make...and lastly, they have their advertisements. And my favorite part....they use the FINEST quality of paper!
I have worked for over a year and a half to have a quilt published in their magazine.....I made the corner of the cover, and a spread on the back cover!
The quilt is called, A Walk In the Park. It is made with pinks, reds, aquas and spring green fabrics...my favorites done all together!
Their magazines are SO beautifully done....such pretty art work and photography!
I am very honored to be featured in their magazine. I know you can find copies at quilt shops, and at your local Barnes & Noble, and Borders Booksellers...and you can also get your very own subscription! Thank you Carol and Caroline at Quiltmania!

FRENCH GENERAL BLOCKS

My sister Tracy came to visit me from southern California during her Spring break from school....she is a third grade school teacher......
These are the blocks she brought to work on while she was here. The fabric is French General from Moda......so beautiful. Although we had a lot of snow while she was here, it was okay because she likes a bit of weather....she says southern CA doesn't get much. It is always fun to have her visit. We sew, shop, eat, watch movies, sew, shop, eat, watch movies....you get the picture!!!!!

CANCER CAUSE PILLOWCASES

Doug Weaver at the Kansas City Star Publishing Co. has a great story about the ConKerr Cancer cause in Pennsylvania. It is a non-profit organization that makes pillow cases for children with cancer, and also helps children and their families in the oncology ward make the pillow cases themselves. They are in the running for a grant from Pepsi....go to this link and read the story; then vote for their cause. Thanks Doug for the story!

THOUGHTS TO THINK ABOUT

I am not necessarily a county western music fan, but sometimes when I am walking on the treadmill in the morning and there is nothing interesting on the TV, I switch to the CMT videos of the day. One such video by Danny Gokey (I don't even know who he is because it has been so long since I watched any CMT) has a song entitled, "My Best Days are Ahead of Me." In the video there are little thoughts pinned up every where....on a tree, on the side of a building...you get the picture! Here are some of those little thoughts that I found interesting....something we should all think about!

Make better mistakes tomorrow!

If not now...when?

Do what excites you!

Be your best self, everyone else is taken.

You are a victim of the rules you live by.

Replace fear with curiosity.

It is never too late!

LIVE NOW!

I would only add.....AMEN!

BEAUTIFUL HOLLAND

My friend sent me these pictures in an email. Good thing because we have had snow for the past few days!

How beautiful to look at spring on the other side of the world at the start of our winter!
With more than 10,000 hectares devoted to the cultivation of these delicate flowers, the Dutch landscape in May is a kaleidoscope of giddy
colours as the tulips burst into life. The bulbs were planted in late October and early November, and these colourful creations are now ready
to be picked and sold as bunches of cut flowers in florists and supermarkets. More than three billion tulips are grown each year and two-thirds
of the vibrant blooms are exported, mostly to the U.S. and Germany. In the first picture, an extraordinary 60 million tulips can be seen
coming into flower.

The fields of northern Holland explode into a colourful springtime display Their dazzling colours are thanks to the years in the 17th century when Tulipmania swept the globe and the most eye-catching specimens
changed hands for a small fortune.But like a rainbow, this colourful landscape is a short-lived phenomenon.When the flowers are gone, the land will be cultivated for a rather more mundane crop of vegetables.
Isn't this amazing?
... and a view from eye-level.

BIRTHDAY QUILT UPDATE

Here is the birthday boy with his quilt.
He told his mom he was cold and needed his new quilt.
I loved that it had his name on it and he loved the train! Happy Birthday to my sweet grandson!

Isn't this a cheerful piece of flannel? Timeless Treasures, Taffy! They sure make some beautiful flannel now days. I bought it for my new little granddaughter coming any day. Her mom has made a bunch of blankets, so maybe I will keep this one for my house. Nothing like a baby....especially one that can wear PINK!
