QUILT DAY # 2

I know we all own or have seen a Grandmother's Garden quilt like this. I am sad to say I can't even remember where I got this. It is in really GREAT shape.
The one thing I loved about it, is that the border is sewn to the white along the hexagon shapes so the entire flower shows, not cut off like you see some quilts....I have one of those too! And isn't this soft green the greatest color?
See how this edge is sewn. Such great workmanship!
The front border is turned over to the back and is also the binding. A very talented person made this quilt. I have always loved the thin old quilts, those puffy ones from the 70's and 80's were never my favorite. I always put a thin batting in my quilts, I just love how they feel, especially after they are washed and dried.~~~We should take a head count: how many people own a Grandmother's Garden quilt? How many have ever made one? I sort of made one. I only did the flowers and appliqued them on a block....does that count as half?~~ Okay, 1 for owning, 1/2 for making, who else?

What a beautiful old quilt! Sadly I neither own nor have made one of these. But it is on my "someday" list. Does that count for anything? LOL

Somewhere on my laptop I have two quilts like this but I think the one similar is all cream backing and hand quilted in the same style. the other one is in black background, in black they used to be called widow,s quilts.
If you care to browse they will be in webshots name of cottonreel .
If I can find them in Picassa I,ll put them on my blog--cottonreel

I have made 2. The first was my first peiced quilt and the 2 was just recently as an English Paper peiced applique.

Sheri...this is an amazing Grandmother's Flower Garden! Wow...it's just stunning! I just found out from my great Aunt that she has one started by my 2nd great grandmother...she's sending me a photo, and I can't wait to see it! I'm making a GFG right now...so 1/2 a point? Oh, and a friend made me a framed one...does that count for another 1/2 point!

That's beautiful. I love the border and can't imagine trying to make it. I don't own any, nor do I plan on making one - perhaps I'll find one I can afford someday!
I love thin quilts too, I use a flannel sheet for batting in all my quilts.

What a gorgeous quilt! I made some hexagons for a soft baby ball and I think that turned me off ever making a whole quilt - it would be a labour of love for sure!

Your quilts are beautiful! I have never made one and don't own any. My mother did give me a quilt passed down from a few generations back. It was my wedding gift from her and this was before I had ever quilted. A perfect gift. And how did she know that I would love quilts?! I'll post pictures when we are moved.

You are lucky to have found that quilt, it's stunning and such good shape. I never done one or owed one either.

I love Grandmother's Flower Garden quilts! I have three, if you want to see two of them, they're on my blog. They're on my November 26, 2006 entry, or you could use the search box to find them. I also have a top that one of my grandmothers started, and I finished many years ago. I need to get that quilted, it's really special to me.

What a beautiful quilt. I just love grandmothers flower garden. I love it so much I've started one using the English paper piecing method. Seeing your beautiful quilt has inspired me to get it out and work on it. Thanks for sharing.

I have never made one (yet), but I just purchase a top at a thrift store this week!! It does not have a border yet, but needs one like yours....wonder how I'll do that?
Thanks for sharing your beautiful quilt.

I own two. One is a baby quilt and the border looks a lot like the one you have. Same green and everything. Unfortunately, it is in rough shape due to lots of love. However,it is still one of my faves and hangs in my bedroom.

Sheri,
I started one about 10 years ago and have about 10 flowers made. I also bought a green very similar to yours to put it together with. Your post makes me want to get it out and finish it!
